Just another Wednesday.. wait now Thursday
12:00AM- Sitting here looking through the abundance of home videos my father shot. Wondering to myself, does it all change once you meet these strangers that are only parents by blood. Will I be able to offer a piece of myself to them, without tearing away a piece from my parents now. It bothers me to think that I will have to have these two lives, but I guess in time I will find out if I'm able and willing to give myself to two different worlds.
Who knows.
Who knows.

Did curiosity really kill the cat?
11:40pm Monday night November 9, 2009. Sitting here talking with my brother, Matt, wondering about what Korea is like. He has some memories, but not fully formed ones. He was 18 months old and can remember things like a large office with filing cabinets and a toy horse.. I sometimes envy that. I can't recall a damn thing, although you can't blame me since I was only 5 months old.
I would like to think that a wave of emotions will fall on me when I get off the plane in Seoul. Back in Korea after 25 years, something should be felt. My biggest fear is that nothing will connect. I guess why should it, but there should be something visceral when I land. I want that experience.
Here's to you Matt, this post is in honor of you. At least one of us can remember some distant memory of the motherland.

Writing the Letter video
Here's a short video of my experience writing the letter to my birth parents. Comment and don't forget to follow!
The actual letter
Writing "THE" letter
Today I am writing the letter to my birth parents to begin the search. Extremely nervous and not quite sure what to write in it. What the heck do they even want to know, and where the hell do I even start! Hopefully I'll post a bit of the video later on. Wish me luck...

A video just in case you haven't seen it!
This is a video I made a couple years ago when I first thought of documenting this process. I hope you enjoy it!

Finding Seoul- An Adoptee's Journey

My name is John Sanvidge and I was adopted from Seoul, South Korea in 1984. I was raised in upstate New York with my other adopted siblings, my brother is also from South Korea. The only life I've known is my average Irish/Italian upbringing, but somewhere down the road we all search for something, which is the position I'm in now.
I'm creating this blog to keep people updated on how the search for my birth parents is going. I'm filming the entire process for an independent feature documentary. I'm going to post some photos and also a few video journals. Hopefully my story will lift your spirits in anyway possible.
Thanks for your support!
John
